Small Office/Home Office (SOHO)

Some TEX-AN vendors offer budget-friendly internet service for Small Office/Home Office (SOHO). These services are designed for locations with 25 workstations or less. Bandwidth, cost and installation fees vary based on the vendor.

  • Customer entities place orders directly with the TEX-AN vendor through purchase orders.
  • Customers are responsible for complying with their entities’ security policies and procedures to ensure the protection of sensitive data for each SOHO site.
  • The TEX-AN vendor will directly invoice the customer for SOHO services
  • DIR can add TEX-AN SOHO service to a customer's consolidated DIR Telecommunications Service invoice, but a fee applies to each SOHO location.

If you are a State Agency and want to use SOHO for a remote office:

State agencies should use DIR's Telecom Services to the fullest extent possible, including DIR-provided Internet for the agency headquarters and any office that is located on the Austin Capitol Complex.

  • A state agency may use the SOHO packages offered through TEX-AN vendors if the office has 25 workstations or less.
  • Agency traffic at remote locations should run back through the agency headquarters' security stack, excluding trusted networks such as Microsoft O365 or enterprise-managed SaaS services. Any agency traffic, excluding trusted networks, that is not running through the agency headquarters' security stack would require a telecom exemption waiver.
  • Click the link below if you are an agency and want to apply for an Exemption Request to obtain a waiver:
