Overview
The Office of the Chief Information Security Office (OCISO) of the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) is hosting a free (in person only) Cyber Awareness Event on Wednesday, October 18th 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. including lunch and a social engineering presentation sponsored by Deloitte. Space is limited, so register early!
Presentation description: A cyber attack against a famous casino recently dominated news headlines, costing the casino millions of dollars of revenue per day. The attack on the casino was initiated simply through social engineering—which is when scammers manipulate a victim into taking questionable action such as giving up sensitive information, installing malware, or sending money. Social engineering can be done through a phone call, email, or even a text message. Join us for this one-hour discussion to learn how to recognize a social engineering scammer’s goals, identify how these scams work, examine the techniques that scammers use, and learn how to avoid falling for them.
Speaker: David An, Cybersecurity Manager, Deloitte.
Audience: state and university employees from any program area.
All attendees must register by Monday, October 16th, 2023. If capacity is met before then, we will close the registration form. If you can no longer attend, please return to the form to cancel your registration.
