DIR and Gartner Security Webinar: Privacy and the Importance of Compliance

Wednesday Apr 26, 2023
11:00am - 12:00pm CDT

Overview

Please join DIR and Gartner for our monthly webinar on Privacy and the Importance of Compliance. Noncompliance with privacy regulations and data breaches can result in significant legal,  financial and even reputational costs. Gartner predicts that through 2026, organizations that mishandle personal data will suffer three times more financial damage from class actions and mass claims than from enforcement sanctions.

Facilitating awareness of key privacy issues among leaders and employees is key to mitigating these risks. IT leaders often struggle to understand key elements of designing a privacy program that is consistent with best practices.

The webinar will cover the following topics:

• Data privacy concepts, including definitions and examples.
• How emerging privacy issues affect the organization.
• Costs of data privacy failures.
• Data privacy policies and requirements within the organization.

The presenter of this session is Glenn Schoonover with Gartner’s Security and Risk Management Leadership Partner team. His Cybersecurity experience spans a variety of sectors. He served 14 years in the Army in a wide variety of command and staff positions. He then served in several startups and spent time at Microsoft as a Federal Cyber Security Advisor. He was also the CISO for the State of Vermont, as well as the State of Oklahoma, prior to coming to Gartner.

He is experienced in leading organizations to build, refine, and mature their Information Security Programs. He has specific experience in developing, assessing, and managing information security program compliance with NIST 800-53,and 800-171.
