Texas State Agencies Should Use Caution in Accepting Free Trials

The Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) is warning state agency personnel to use caution when signing up for so-called "free trials."

The internet and social media offer a steady flow of "free trial" products and services which may indeed offer a valid no-cost no-commitment opportunity to test products and services, however Texas state agency employees must be aware of potential risks associated with these offers.

It is imperative that employees acting on behalf of a state agency understand the terms and conditions associated with these offers.  Accepting a free trial or failing to cancel the subscription by a cancellation date buried in fine print may result in actual purchases.
